"I was Risk Manager with Avondale
Industries, Inc. in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997 when we were
advised of the increasing cost of sub-contract labor for the Shipyard.
A significant portion of the cost for the sub-contract labor was
the Worker's Compensation insurance carried by the subcontractor's
employer. As a result, Mike and I developed a site specific Worker's
Compensation program that insured the sub-contractor employees while
on my time clock at my facility. In order to accomplish this task,
we would have to convince Underwriters that the plan was feasible
and would be profitable for all parties. Mike was tasked with assembling
Underwriters who would be interested in the program and who would
be able to accept the terms offered by the Shipyard. Mike delivered!
He provided five (5) A+ XV Underwriters to my door-step for approval.
After multiple meetings, one(1) underwriter was chosen and the program
became effective in the Fall of 1997. The program lasted approximately
seven (7) years with an annual savings to the Shipyard in excess
of $2,000,000." |
